Multimedia Meta-Awards

These go to the best multimedia works overall from the 11 topic winners in each group.

About our Meta-judge: Barbara Stefanics
Barbara Stefanics is a Flat Classroom Advisor and pioneer with the Digiteen Project. She is an Apple Distinguished Educator, an International Baccalaureate leader and consultant and has been recognised globally for her work in education. You can read more about Barbara on her portfolio.

Final comments from (Barbara Stefanics):
The videos demonstrated the full range of techniques for submission. They demonstrated a high level of research as well as initiative and creativity. The criteria for judging the videos was applied in order to determine the winners in each category and overall.

Design and Technical Quality:
The design and technical quality was commendable. The choice of music was well coordinated with the images.
In some instances the use of a microphone would have improved the audio track. Where interviews were taken, it would be advised to note any action that is taking place in the background. Often the use of a tripod would have also been advisable when capturing images from portable devices or monitors.
The use of fonts is an important consideration. Fonts as well as images and video convey a message. In some instances text over the images was difficult to read because of the size, style and color of the font.
Almost all videos adhered to the 1-5 minute time limit.

Synthesis and Construction of Ideas:
Outstanding research was tranformed into logical storyboards and video. The narration was well organized and delivered.
There were a few instances of misspelled words and grammatical errors. Great caution should be exercised in the use of excessive text on a screen or narration that simply reads what is written on the screen.
One of the strengths of the videos was the quality of the videos which were outsourced and seamlessly integrated into the final video. The students who contributed to the winning videos are also to be commended for their efforts.
One of the weaknesses in the videos was the lack of or insufficient acknowledgement of sources used in the video or people contributing to the video.
